The Madagascar 2012 Expedition will follow 14 years of world travel and community projects organised by The Coopers' Company and Coborn School. In 2012 a group of 34 year 12 and 13 students will spend one month in Madagascar, with the aim of completing the building of a secondary school block in the Merina village of Andranosoa. Pupils will also spend time experiencing the vulnerable wildlife, people and landscapes of what is a unique country by travelling to the west coast via a 3 day canoe journey along the Tsiribihina river, visiting the Tsingy de Bemaraha, Kirindy Forest and the Avenue de Baobab. As a team, we are hoping to raise £20,000 to cover costs for the charity project. The aim of this blog is to provide information about Madagascar, the team and the fund-raising project. Please visit the pages shown on the right to learn more about the expedition.

Competition- Opportunity to Win a trip to Sweden and £300 for Expedition

Saw this advertised today- it may be an opportunity for some of you to get together and come up with an entry based on water problems in Andranosoa, our project village in Madagascar.

The 2012 Tomorrow's Water Competition is open for entries.
Tomorrow's Water is a competition open to those with a curiosity about the diverse functions and uses of water and who wish to persue a project in how we can manipulate and analyse water to improve our quality of life and/or the environment.

If you are interested, then think about ways in which water can be collected from rainfall e.g roofs. It would be good to invent your own design of rainwater harvesting for our secondary school building.

Here are some links to look at:

or what about this: http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=53521 Fog catching will work well on the hills surrounding the village.

Look at the graph above. The challenge is to provide year round water for the village when there is very little rain from April to September.

Let me know if a group of you want to enter. Will be a shame if no-one wants to. Deadline is March.
