The Madagascar 2012 Expedition will follow 14 years of world travel and community projects organised by The Coopers' Company and Coborn School. In 2012 a group of 34 year 12 and 13 students will spend one month in Madagascar, with the aim of completing the building of a secondary school block in the Merina village of Andranosoa. Pupils will also spend time experiencing the vulnerable wildlife, people and landscapes of what is a unique country by travelling to the west coast via a 3 day canoe journey along the Tsiribihina river, visiting the Tsingy de Bemaraha, Kirindy Forest and the Avenue de Baobab. As a team, we are hoping to raise £20,000 to cover costs for the charity project. The aim of this blog is to provide information about Madagascar, the team and the fund-raising project. Please visit the pages shown on the right to learn more about the expedition.

The Project: Andranosoa

Work on building our school is now under way. After three days of meetings in the village of Andranosoa, we were given the go ahead to start digging the foundations.

We are currently in the process of raising £20,000 to fund a new secondary school block and a reforestation project in the village of Andranosoa. watch the video to find out what the village is like.

The Secondary School Block
Mr Cornish will be visitng Andranosoa in April to finalise plans for the school. Secondary education levels in Madagascar are very low so it is excellent that the village elders have asked for us to help them start their first secondary school, and the only school of its kind for 10 miles. As well as building the 1-2 classrooms, we will also be funding a teacher and building two long drop toilets.

Sustainability
We will be making sure that the project work in Andranosoa will meet the needs of the community today, also planning that it will leave a lasting legacy; a catalyst for environmental, social and economic improvement in this impoverished area.
