The Madagascar 2012 Expedition will follow 14 years of world travel and community projects organised by The Coopers' Company and Coborn School. In 2012 a group of 34 year 12 and 13 students will spend one month in Madagascar, with the aim of completing the building of a secondary school block in the Merina village of Andranosoa. Pupils will also spend time experiencing the vulnerable wildlife, people and landscapes of what is a unique country by travelling to the west coast via a 3 day canoe journey along the Tsiribihina river, visiting the Tsingy de Bemaraha, Kirindy Forest and the Avenue de Baobab. As a team, we are hoping to raise £20,000 to cover costs for the charity project. The aim of this blog is to provide information about Madagascar, the team and the fund-raising project. Please visit the pages shown on the right to learn more about the expedition.

Expedition Camera

I have bought a Nikon AW100 to test before the expedition.

It has been getting excellent reviews for the following features:
- Waterproof, shockproof, dust proof
 - GPS and inbuilt map to show location of every photo.
- 16MP sensor

If anyone is wondering about buying a new camera I would seriously consider this one for around £220.

Assembly Help Needed

The Madagascar Expedition team are on the rota to do all of the assemblies the week beginning 5th of March. I would like (need!) some helpers that can share stories of how you have raised money for to the rest of the school. It will also be good if you could talk about how the act of fundraising for charity has changed you as a person and given you a new perspective on things! The theme of the assemblies is 'vision'. I am going to try and inspire others (especially the lower school) to come up with ideas while you are all studying hard for exams.

Please email me if you would like to participate in one or more of the assemblies during the week. It will also be an excellent opportunity to draw the football shirt raffle and advertise any other fundraising ideas we have coming up.

Many thanks for all of your hard work.

Mr Cornish

Meetings Held With Mayor in Andranosoa

Some news and photos from Madagascar...
The President of Andranosoa and Project manager, Roland went to meet the Mayor of Ambohimalaza and submitting to him the proposal of the project. Attached are two photos of that meeting. His reaction was that there is no opposition from his side and he was going to meet the Analamanga Region education officials in the next week to start to get everything moving. The photos show the meeting that was held last week.
